Students from Milton Keynes College recently visited IPS for a chance to get their hands on some lighting and sound equipment

The new Pre Production space at IPS had been fitted with a variety of lighting fixtures, ranging from generics to the latest intelligent LED fixtures, and the students were able to see demonstrations controlled by both Avolites and Chamsys control desks. Meanwhile, in the sound department, a range of digital and analogue desks were on display, and IPS technicians explained the details of how the desks work, and ways in which they can be used for different productions.

The equipment used was all part of the current IPS rental stock, and included Sunstrip Active Strips, Martin Rush LED Matrix strobe panels, Martin MAC 101, MAC 250 Entour, MAC 700 and MAC Aura moving head fixtures, along with Source 4 profiles and Source 4 Pars. In the sound department, the digital Yamaha M7CL ES was contrasted with the analogue Soundcraft MH3 desk.

“It was a great experience for the students” said Miss Lockwood, who had arranged the session with IPS. The students were all keen to participate, and even the IPS technicians demonstrating the equipment seemed to have a good time answering all sorts of questions.
